Waterloo Icehouse is an Austin original, which opened its doors back in 1976. They are still going strong, with four locations as of today. This review is focused on the 360 & 2222 location in West Austin's hill country, although the overall vibe and menus are the same for all locations.
Drinks, Food, and Fun for the Whole Family Waterloo Ice house is a restaurant that caters to a wide variety of audiences. Whether you are looking to stop in after work for happy hour, grab a bite to eat after a nearby hike, or take the family for dinner, you are sure to leave satisfied. The (dog friendly) patio is large and has enough seating to accommodate the dinner rush on a Friday night. Between the large trees providing shade on a hot afternoon, and the playground full of kids having fun, the patio is definitely the place to be. The indoor dining experience isn't too shabby either, with a rustic yet modern feel, you can't go wrong sitting inside.
Outside Patio on a Thursday Evening
Okay I Get It, The Place is Awesome. What About The Food?
When sitting down at the table, we were quickly greeted by our server who had water for us and our dogs. It is now common place to scan a QR code and view the menu with your phone, which is exactly how it works here but with a twist. Not only do you view the menu, but you place your order right on your phone as well. The user experience was seamless and intuitive, unlike many other online ordering systems I've used in the past. You can keep the tab open or pay immediately. That means no more waiting around to get the check and no fuss over splitting the bill.
Okay, now onto what you've all been waiting for; the food! The menu has salads, burgers/sandwiches, tacos, and more. I opted for the pulled pork tacos and a fried catfish taco along with a side of sweet potato waffle fries. The pulled pork tacos were marinated to perfection and had crispy onion strings which provided a nice crunch for a well balanced texture. The catfish was battered well with a nice crisp finish without drying out the fish inside. Overall these tacos will definitely have me coming back for more. My friend and I split an order of the stuffed jalapeños which are battered and fried, then stuffed with chicken and garlic along with cheddar, jack, and cream cheeses. If you are looking for crunchy, cheesy, and spicy, then look no further!
The Shame Of Overeating Was Worth Every Bite
If you find yourself out west, then Waterloo Icehouse at 360 & 2222 is worth a visit. No matter who you are, as long as you're looking for good food, good drinks, and good vibes, give them a try.
